'Possible gunfire' forces lockdown of 2 Central Falls schools, officials say

Two schools in Central Falls were locked down Tuesday after reports of “possible gunfire” near Rand and Dexter streets, authorities said.

Ella Risk Elementary School and Segue Institute for Learning were briefly locked down, according to WPRI.com.

A police search of the area following the incident yielded a hidden 9mm semiautomatic handgun, and soon after that a person armed with a shotgun was arrested, Central Falls police Chief James Mendonca said in an email late Tuesday night.

The relationship between the suspect and the initial incident is unclear, Mendonca said.

“We will have more information for the media tomorrow,” he said.
