Koppal Police have arrested four persons, including a woman, on the charge of cheating the public in the guise of repairing gold ornaments.
Giving details, Superintendent of Police Anup Shetty, told presspersons here on Tuesday that Rahamatulla Sheikh, a resident of Ballari now settled in Koppal, had opened a jewellery shop and taken gold and silver ornaments from 19 persons for repair and polishing.
Later, he pledged the gold ornaments with a private finance firm, availed himself of a loan and fled the place. The victims had lodged complaints with the police.
A team, which took up investigation, traced the accused and recovered 850 grams of gold valued at ₹ 24 lakh, and arrested three others involved — Sahira Banu, wife of Rahamatulha, Saddam Hussain and Hakani, he said.
