RESIDENTS have been invited to a ceremony in Redcar’s Garden of Remembrance to mark National Holocaust Memorial Day, hosted by the Mayor of Redcar and Cleveland.

The ceremony, taking place on Friday, January 26 at 11.30am, will involve members of the public, civic officials and school children remembering the atrocities of the Second World War.

The Mayor, Cllr Karen King, will be in attendance in the Garden of Remembrance along with representatives from the British Legion, Parish Councils in the borough as well as council staff.

Also in attendance will be pupils from Coatham Primary School who will be marking the day by laying flowers at the Holocaust Commemorative Tree.

The mayor said: “It is important we pause to reflect on the tragic events from the Second World War, not just to remember the fallen, but to pay tribute to the survivors. I would encourage people to come along and join us in remembrance.”

The Garden of Remembrance is located on Coatham Road, opposite the Cenotaph and members of the public are welcome to attend.
