FRONTENAC — Chalk this one up to missed opportunities.
The Frontenac Raider girls fell 42-38 to the Galena Bulldogs Tuesday night, largely on missed chances.
Up by 11-4 in the first four minutes of the game, the Raiders missed easy layups on multiple fast break opportunities, and were blanked in the last four minutes of the quarter to end the period tied up.
Trading baskets back and forth in the second period, with just one minute left in the half, the Bulldogs took their first lead of the game.
Leading by as much as six at times, Galena was able to hold on for the four point win, outscoring the Raiders 14-12 in the second and 8-6 in the third. The fourth quarter was a tie at 9-all.
By the Numbers
Madi Davis and Taylor Peterson were both in double figures for the Raiders with 13 each.
Davis was 4-of-10 from the field, 0-of-1 from the arc and shot 5-of-6 from the line. Peterson was just 1-of-6 from the field, but 3-of-5 from the arc and 2-of-4 from the line.
As a team, Frontenac was 10-of-39 from the field, 3-of-13 from the arc and 9-of-17 from the line.
By way of comparison, the Bulldogs were 15-of-36 from the field, 1-of-11 from the arc and 9-of-14 from the line.
Galena Bulldog boys 58, Frontenac 47
The Galena Bulldogs walked onto Frontenac’s home court Tuesday night like they owned it, and proceeded to walk away from the Raiders in a 58-47 victory.
Galena opened the game with a 19-15 quarter and it looked like it might be a game.
However in the second frame the Bulldogs shut down the Raider offense behind lights out shooting from game-high scorer senior Trevor Little, who picked up six of his 18 points without dropping a shot. Little ended the night 4-of-7 from the field, 2-of-5 from the arc and 4-of-4 from the line.
The 13-8 period left the Raiders down 32-23 at the half.
Frontenac came out strong in the third, however, and a 12-11 quarter let them chip away at the lead.
In the fourth, Galena led by as much as 15, but allowed Frontenac to claw back into the game and the Raiders closed to within 4. Frontenac was forced to foul to stop the clock, however, and Galena’s JC Shelton went 6-of-6 from the charity stripe to put the game out of reach.

Frontenac had two players in double figures, Hayden Pile with 15, going 6-of-14 from the field and 3-of-4 from the line; and Jake Wilbert who was 2-of-6 from the field, 2-of-6 from the arc for 10 points.
As a team the Raiders were 18-of-40 from the field, 2-of-13 from the arc and 4-of-6 from the line.
By way of comparison, the Bulldogs were 15-of-30 from the field, 5-of-17 from the arc and 13-of-17 from the line.
