Less than half of Canadians hold open view of the world, poll finds, Jan. 23
This is a disturbing article. I’m certainly not a Trump supporter, but I am concerned about technological and economic transformation.
To say that people like me have a “closed-off view of the world,” want to “pull up the drawbridge,” are racist and “hold views acutely in line with some of those darker forces” of pessimism and nationalism is to deliberately ignore the significant and rapidly growing dangers of globalization and free trade at any cost.
How many examples do we need to concede that galloping globalization is deleterious? I’ll cite just two of thousands: the collapse of Carillion and NAFTA’s Chapter 11 investor-state dispute-resolution system, which has allowed American companies to trample Canada’s laudable public-policy goals.
