SEOUL, Jan. 24 (Yonhap) -- Reigning South Korean pro football champions Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors said Wednesday they've acquired forward Carlos Adriano de Sousa Cruz.
The 2017 K League Classic winners said they've signed the 30-year-old Brazilian, who is commonly known as Adriano, to a two-year deal. Jeonbuk said the player will join their pre-season training next month in Mokpo, South Jeolla Province.
"I'm happy to wear uniform of Jeonbuk, the best team in the K League," Adriano said through the club. "I'll be ready to show my best performance."
The former Bahia and Palmeiras forward first landed in South Korea in 2014 and played for second-tier club Daejeon Citizen. Adriano joined Seoul in 2015 and scored 25 goals in 43 K League matches for them.
In 2016, Adriano scored 35 goals in all competitions -- K League, Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Champions League and Korea Football Association Cup -- to set a new single season scoring record in the country. He was the top scorer at the 2016 AFC Champions League with a record-tying 13 goals.
Adriano was the second leading scorer in the 2016 K League Classic with 17 goals, three behind Jung Jo-gook, but he helped Seoul win the first division title. He then moved to Chinese side Shijiazhuang Ever Bright FC.
Adriano will complete Jeonbuk's formidable attacking line with fellow Brazilians. The five-time K League champions also have speedy winger Ricardo Lopes and forward Tiago Alves.
