St. Xavier’s Janfest 2018 to be held on 25th January

In the first corridor of St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai, is a small room; a room that takes people back into time with its rustic doors, its age-old walls and the priceless treasures that lie inside. Right from legends of impeccable caliber to youngsters brimming with talent, this room has seen it all. Synonymous with the classical music scene in Mumbai, this is the Indian Music Group.

One of the greatest classical music concerts in the country, Janfest is the flagship concert of the Indian Music Group. Held in the month of January every year, the Janfest stage has been graced by a host of classical legends, some of them being Ustad Alla Rakha Khan, Pandit Ravi Shankar, Ustad Zakir Hussain, M. S. Subbalakshmi and Gaanasaraswati Kishori Amonkar.

 

With the preparations for Janfest having started right at the start of the academic year, the IMG has tried to ensure that no stone has been left unturned in ensuring that Janfest 2018 is a memorable experience for each and every audience member.

The First Session of Janfest 2018 will commence on the 25th of January at 6 PM, with renowned vocal exponent Shri Jayateerth Mevundi. This would be followed by Dharohar, a violin recital by three generations of musicians – violin virtuoso Dr. N. Rajam, her daughter Dr. Sangeeta Shankar and her granddaughters Kum. Ragini Shankar and Kum. Nandini Shankar.

 

The Second Session, which starts at 6:30 AM, nipples will feature a Sitar recital by Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan, set against the picturesque quadrangle of the college in the wee hours of the Republic Day.

 

Satish Vyas

The Third Session will start at 5:30 PM, with a jugalbandi by Pandit Satish Vyas on the Santoor and Pandit Rupak Kulkarni on the Flute. Carnatic Music makes its return to Janfest after four years, with a performance by Dr. Jayanthi Kumaresh on the Saraswati Veena. The Grand Finale of Janfest 2018 would feature classical music legends Pandit Rajan Misra and Pandit Sajan Misra.

 

Pass sales have started at St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai from 10:30 AM to 7:30 PM everyday. The rates for the same are as follows: Rs. 360, 600, 735, 900, 1350, 1740, and Sofa for 7080. Cash and all major credit and debit cards are accepted.

 

Members are entitled to a discount on two passes. The discounted rates are: Rs. 330, 540, 660, 810, 1215, 1560, and Sofa for 6360.
