Punjab, Jan 24: A 23-year-old man was arrested for brutally raping and murdering a minor girl in Kasur city in Pakistan’s Punjab province. The accused was arrested when his DNA matched with the sample found from the victim’s body, Geo News reported, citing the sources. The accused, Imran Ali, also confessed to the crime before the investigation agency.

Shockingly, the DNA of the accused also matched with the samples taken from seven other girls who were raped or sexually assaulted in last few years, in the same area. The police said that the accused knew the victim’s family and would often frequent the house to meet them.

The accused was taken into custody two weeks ago but was released after the victim’s family pleaded that he couldn’t be the culprit. (Also Read: Rape And Murder of 8-year-old Stirs Outrage in Pakistan, Protests Held)

Punjab government spokesman Malik Ahmad had told PTI that although Ali had confessed to his crime, it would be confirmed only after a DNA test. “Imran Ali’s DNA test is underway and hopefully we will have the report later in the day,” he added.

In the first week of January, the body of an eight-year-old girl was found from a trash dump. The post report reports said that she had been sexually assaulted multiple times before murdered before being dumped into a pile of trash.

The eight-year-old girl had gone missing last week while going to a nearby home for Quranic studies. Her parents were away on a pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia. “We will not bury our daughter until her killers are arrested,” her father said. The victim was later found in a pile of rubbish.

The reports said that she was abducted outside a religious institution where she had gone for her Quranic studies on January 4. Reports say that a video has emerged of her walking hand-in-hand with a stranger and police are verifying the footage.
