Malcolm Mason, age 92, passed away Sunday evening January 21st.
Son of Floyd and Fern Mason, Malcolm was brother to Wanda, husband of 58 years to Virginia and father to Kim and Mike.
Malcolm’s life was dedicated to service. He served in the Army during World War II including the Battle of the Bulge, recalled to duty in the Korean conflict and 1961 Berlin Crisis.
He continued his service as a reservist for the Army, retiring in 1985 at the rank of Command Sergeant Major E9. Malcolm also had the honor of serving as Scott Township Trustee, Farm Bureau President and Veterans Affairs for Henry County. He was an active member of the Winfield VFW and American Legion and particularly enjoyed Christmas programs at the Winfield Presbyterian Church.
As a young boy, Malcolm helped his Dad on the family farm and also was a farm hand for a neighboring farm. He continued farming into his 70’s.
Malcolm enjoyed repairing most anything mechanical and was very good at it.
Malcolm was a resident of Sunrise Terrace for seven-and-a-half years and delighted in good-natured banter with the staff and greatly appreciated all visitors. As a memorial, please consider gifting your time to visit someone in a nursing home.
The funeral service for Malcolm will be Saturday January 27, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at the Honts Funeral Home in Winfield, with Rev. Dottie Halverson officiating. Interment will be in the Winfield-Scott Township Cemetery. Friends may call from 8:00 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home. There will be no family visitation.
