BEVERLY - Plenty of rest didn’t pay off for the Caldwell Lady Redskins on Thursday as they finally returned to action only to fall by a 53-31 score to Fort Frye in Pioneer Valley Conference girls’ action.
"When you only play your second game in 28 days, this is what the end result looks like," lamented Caldwell coach Jodi Schott. "Hopefully, the weather is better and we can get back into a rhythm of playing basketball."
Fort Frye assumed a 15-9 lead after one quarter and used a 13-3 surge in the second period to open a commanding 28-12 edge at the half. The Lady Cadets posted a 13-9 scoring advantage in the third chapter to push the lead to 41-21.
Morgan Borich tallied 19 points and Lexi Huck added 14 to lead Fort Frye, with the duo combining for seven three-point goals. Karlee Ross contributed nine tallies to the Lady Cadets’ offense.
Fort Frye (11-3, 5-0 PVC) hit 19-of-47 field goal attempts and 8-of-13 free throws wth 34 rebounds and nine turnovers. Huck had 10 rebounds, Kesselring seven and Adkins six while Huck also had five steals.
For Caldwell (4-8, 2-3 PVC), Julia Griffith turned in a solid effort with 17 points, but Megan Zwick’s six markers was next in line.
The Lady Redskins were 11-of-38 from the floor and 6-of-8 at the charity stripe; had 20 rebounds and 21 turnovers. Zwick led the rebounders with four while Lexie Weisend had four assists and two steals.
NEXT- Caldwell treks to Bellaire to face St. John Central on Saturday at 12 noon.
Bellaire 85, Barnesville 37
BELLAIRE - With five players scoring in double figures, the Bellaire Lady Big Reds jumped out early and never looked back in racing past the visiting Barnesville Shamrocks by a 85-37 tally on Thursday.
Bellaire raced to a 23-9 first quarter lead and a 31-5 explosion in the second half put the game away at 54-14 at the intermission. It was 67-22 after three quarters.
Maci Crozier led the Bellaire offensive barrage with 27 points. Cierra Davis was next in line with 13 followed by De’Asia Burney with 12 while Natalie Stoner and Michaela Flaherty chipped in 11 each. The Lady Big Reds (13-2) had 35 field goals and tacked on 9-of-11 from the bonus line.
Barresville (5-8) was led in scoring by Sarah Powell with 15 points, with Dulcie Christman adding seven markers.
NEXT - Barnesville plays at Union Local on Saturday, with JV action at 2 p.m.
