US FIRST lady Melania Trump will not accompany US President Donald Trump to a global summit in Davos this week.

Spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham said overnight that due to "scheduling and logistical issues," Mrs Trump will not attend.

The White House had previously said she would accompany the president on the trip to the annual summit in a Swiss Alpine resort.

Her decision not to travel with her husband comes amid reports that he had an affair with porn star Stormy Daniels, aka Stephanie Clifford, while she was pregnant with their son, Barron.

The Wall Street Journal reported that Mr Trump's lawyer Michael Cohen arranged a $US130,000 payment to Ms Clifford weeks before the election which prohibits her from talking about an alleged sexual relationship

Mr Cohen has strenuously denied the claims.

A government shutdown had threaten to up-end the trip, but it is back on with the government reopening.

A Cabinet delegation was expected to leave today and the president later in the week.

The president is set to address the gathering Friday.
