Man rescued after falling 15m into sinkhole in Victorian cave
Updated
A man has been taken to hospital after being rescued from a cave near Buchan in Victoria's east.
The 25-year-old man was caving with an outdoor adventure group at Jacksons Crossing when he fell 15 metres down a sinkhole about midnight.
He spent the morning stuck on a ledge before being freed around 8:00am.
The CFA's assistant chief officer for Gippsland, Trevor Owen, said the man was being treated for a suspected back injury.
"Police provided their search and rescue specialists who came in to provide the rescue support," he said.
"Thankfully the male has just been rescued and extricated after a long cold night in the cave and has been flown to hospital."
The caves, which were formed by underground rivers cutting through limestone rock and are filled with stalactites and stalagmites, are a popular tourist attraction.
