2 dead, 17 injured in Kentucky school firing

A 15-year-old student opened fire in Kentucky's High School, killing two of his classmates and injuring 17 more, in yet another case of a in the country.

The incident occurred when the student entered the school at 8 am local time with a handgun and then started firing indiscriminately, leading to casualties.

According to Matt Bevin, the suspect, who was not identified, was taken into the juvenile custody in a "nonviolent apprehension", as reported by

The district attorney's office has charged the student with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

His two classmates, a boy and girl, both 15 years, succumbed to their injuries later in the hospital.

The injured students are being treated and is said to be out of danger.

"These children belong to this community, and to specific families in this community. And this is a wound that is going to take a long time to heal, and for some in this community, will never fully heal," said Bevin.

This was the second incident this week.

On Monday, a 15-year-old Italian girl was hospitalised after her 16-year-old classmate shot her in Texas, according to local news reports.

That suspect was taken into police custody by the Sheriff's Department. The girl is recovering according to the local authorities.
