Posted January 24, 2018 07:05:37

Emergency crews are working to rescue a man who fell 15 metres inside a cave near Buchan in Victoria's far east.

The man, aged in his 20s, was cave climbing at Jacksons Crossing Track when he fell at about 12:30am.

Paramedics said the man had a suspected back injury and an air ambulance had been dispatched to the remote area, north of Lakes Entrance.

The extent of his injuries are not known, but they are not believed to be life threatening.

The caves, which were formed by underground rivers cutting through limestone rock and are filled with stalactites and stalagmites, are a popular tourism attraction.
