A group of miscreants’ attempt to loot an SBI ATM here failed late on Monday night as the ATM caught fire when they were trying to break it with the help of a gas cutter machine.
Sources said that soon after the incident, the miscreants fled from the spot leaving behind an auto rickshaw and the gas cutter machine and other equipments, apparently being panicky after the ATM caught fire.
Police later reached the spot and seized the auto rickshaw and the gas cutter machine and other equipments and started investigation.The police said the amount left in the ATM machine might have been gutted.Significantly, in last four days, at least four ATM loot attempts have come to the fore in Rourkela, but the miscreants have not been able to loot any money.
Police sources said that in the previous three cases, the miscreants had used manual means to break open the ATM while in the latest case a gas cutter machine was used.
