Participate in Gram Sabhas in huge numbers:CM

Chief Minister Raman Singh has appealed to the villagers to participate in Gram Sabhas in huge numbers.

Notably, Gram Sabhas programme began in 10,971 gram panchayats on Tuesday on the  occasion of birth anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. The Chief Minister said that it is mandatory to hold 'Gram Sabhas' as per scheduled dates as per the Panchayat Raj Act 1993 in gram panchayats. 

It gives an opportunity for the villagers to have a say in the proceedings of the gram panchayats.

The dates fixed for holding 'Gram Panchayats' are: April 14, August 20,  October 2 and  January 23.

Singh directed the Panchayat and Rural Development Minister  Ajay Chandrakar to take part in the Gram Sabha meetings and observe whether the various State Government policies and programmes are being implemented at the ground -level.

He appealed to the 'panchs-sarpanchs' to make gram sabha meetings a success.

The Panchayat and Rural Development Minister officials said that preparations had been completed in all the districts to hold gram sabha meetings. Circulars had been issued to all District Collectors , CEOs of zilla panchayats to conduct gram sabhas in all the villages. Panchs-sarpanchs should attend meetings.

Review of Swachh Bharat mission whether toilets have been built in all the houses in the villages, developmental activities under the MNREGA , quality of education in schools, presence of teachers in schools, drinking water facility on school premises, 'Beti bachao-Beti Padao' yojana, functioning of anganwadis, eradication of malnourishment, Malaria, Filaria and Dengue. The distribution of ration materials under the Public Distribution System (PDS).

The Food , Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Department had issued a circular to District Collectors to conduct social audit regarding PDS and Prime Minister's 'Ujjwala' project where distribution of LPG connections will be reviewed.

It may be mentioned here that under the Chattisgarh Panchayat Raj Act 1993 it is mandatory to hold gram sabha meetings every three months by every gram panchayat.
