Plans are in the works to help the family of slain Deputy U.S. Marshal Christopher Hill, and to show support for wounded York City Police Officer Kyle Pitts.
A 9/11 nonprofit organization said Friday it was starting a campaign to pay off the mortgage for Hill's family's home.
The group, the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, honors the sacrifice of firefighter Siller, who died saving others on Sept. 11, 2001, according to a news release. The fund is to "honor and support the military and first responders."
Siller's brother, Frank, the CEO of the foundation, said he was in Harrisburg Friday because "it was our duty and our obligation to make sure that we as Americans come together to take care of the family that was left behind of Deputy U.S. Marshal Christopher David Hill."
Siller said he never met Hill, but he knew the type of man he was just by hearing about his service to his country. He wants Americans to come together and help the families of those who die protecting our streets, neighborhoods and country.
Tunnel to Towers will donate the first $100,000 toward paying off the Hill family's mortgage, and the foundation's representatives asked for the public's help in paying off the remainder. Donations can be made through tunnel2towers.org.

Gov. Tom Wolf ordered state flags on Friday to fly at half-staff to honor Hill.
“He served his fellow Pennsylvanians, the Marshals Service, our country, and our commonwealth with honor and integrity," Wolf wrote in a statement. "We join all Pennsylvanians in mourning his loss, and send our sincerest sympathies, thoughts, and prayers to his family, friends, and all the women and men of the U.S. Marshals Service.
“We continue to wish for a full and quick recovery for the two police officers – one from York City Police and one from Harrisburg Police – wounded in the shooting.”
Flags of support
Staff of the Harrisburg-area Geigle Funeral Home, which is handling Hill's arrangements, put out flags Friday morning in honor of the marshal. Police from around the region honored Hill Thursday night in a procession to the funeral home.
