SS to visit on Tuesday

One won’t have to go further than the heart of Bartlesville to witness the top Class 6A girls basketball matchup of the week.

At 6:30 p.m. — give a minute or two either way — the unbeaten Bartlesville High School Lady Bruins (15-0, 6-0) will battle the Sand Springs Lady Sandites (10-4, 5-1) in a battle of two Top 10 powers.

Also at stake will be the top spot in the girls standings in the Frontier Valley Conference.

After surging to a 8-0 record to begin the season, Sand Springs is only 2-4 in its last six contests, which included three losses in the Tournament of Champions.

The Lady Bruins, meanwhile, are coming off a championship performance in the Old Fort Classic, hosted by Ft. Gibson High School.

Bartlesville routed Midwest City, 54-38, at Saturday’s final.

But, the Lady Bruins are coming off their toughest week of the campaign.

After romping to 11-straight victories by double-digit margins, they were pushed to single-digit wins against Owasso, 46-38, and Ft. Gibson, 42-37.

Even so, the Lady Bruins have met all their challenges this season with flying colors.

Tuesday offers another opportunity.

The boys game — set to tip off at 8 p.m. — pits a struggling Bruin bunch (5-10, 1-5) against a winning Sandite squad (11-3, 4-2).

But, Bartlesville last weekend snapped a four-game losing streak and has played some tough teams down to the wire.
