Job Description

Do you want to work as part of the HCA project to define comprehensive reference maps of all human cells? The HCA is using single cell gene expression techniques as the basis for both understanding human health and understanding different disease mechanisms. We are building and supporting the infrastructure and content standards which will be used by the HCA.

We are looking for a highly motivated Imaging informatics specialist with a background in biology to help integrate imaging and spatial transcriptomics data into the Data Coordination Platform (DCP) for the HCA. You will work at EMBL-EBI located on the Wellcome Genome Campus, near Cambridge, in the UK.

Qualifications and Experience

You should hold an MSc, PhD, or have equivalent experience in biological sciences, biomedical Imaging, bioinformatics or related fields. You should have experience of image-processing and analysis techniques and some coding ability relevant to image analysis pipelines (R, Python; use of Jupyter notebooks). You should also have a good understanding of modern image-based transcriptomics techniques such as Seq-FISH or Mer-FISH.

A good knowledge of human or mouse anatomy would be an advantage as would some background and experience in bioinformatics. Some experience in working with ontologies would also be an advantage but is not essential.   You should possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills and should also work well both independently and within a team environment. The ideal candidate will be able to use their own initiative to create and drive projects to a conclusion.
