Shiv Sena national executive on Tuesday passed a resolution to contest all future polls on its own.
The resolution presented by Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut was passed unanimously in its meet, where Uddhav Thackeray was reelected as the party president.
In the run up to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) polls, Mr. Thackeray had announced that the party will not form an alliance with any other party in future polls. On Tuesday, the announcement recieved an oficial nod from the party.
The announcement also means an end to the two-decade-long electoral alliance (barring to 2014 Maharashtra assembly polls), between the Sena and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The move also raises questions as to whether Sena remains with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and stability of the Maharashtra state government.
