Fischer, Horner lead Rough Riders to win column

GIRLS BASKETBALL

KENT ROOSEVELT 54, HIGHLAND 43

Kent Roosevelt scored a double-digit league win over Highland on Monday.

Senior guard Kayla Fischer scored a game-high 23 points to lead the Rough Riders.

Roosevelt used a 13-4 run to close out the second quarter to grab a 23-18 lead at halftime.

Joining Fischer in double digits was Lexie Horner, who scored 16 points. Jazmine Moxley added eight points and pulled down a team-high 12 rebounds.

RAVENNA 57, COVENTRY 51

Junior forward Lauren Calhoun poured in a game-high 23 points to help guide the Ravens to a PTC Metro Division victory on Monday.

Calhoun hit seven field goals and wore out a path to the free-throw line, where she attempted 17 charity tosses. She made nine.

Kaitlyn Rogers joined Calhoun in double figures with 11 points for the Ravens.

Ravenna led 23-21 at halftime, then came out in the third quarter and outscored the Comets 17-10 to take a 40-31 lead to the fourth quarter.

AURORA 40, BAY 30

An impressive fourth-quarter defensive performance pushed the Aurora Greenmen to a 40-30 victory over Bay on Monday in Aurora.

Bay was held to just two points in the final quarter, while Aurora scored 17 to turn a 28-23 deficit into a double-digit victory.

Aurora was led in scoring by Shayanne Sellers with 14 points, while her sister Shayla Sellers added 10 points. Haley Ross scored 12 for the Greenmen, including a pair of 3-pointers.

MARLINGTON 48, CRESTWOOD 36

Crestwood fell behind 12-7 after the first quarter and trailed 32-17 at halftime, which proved to be a deficit too large to overcome.

The Red Devils outscored the Dukes 19-16 in the second half.

Crestwood was led in the scoring column by Ellie Cox, who finished with 14 points and also pulled down a team-high 12 rebounds and added three blocked shots.

Kelly Hoffman added eight points for the Devils, along with five assists.

Slate Bretz had 10 rebounds for Crestwood.

BOYS BOWLING

WOODRIDGE 2,592, STREETSBORO 2,023

The Bulldogs continued their march through the PTC, beating the Streetsboro Rockets at Legend Lanes and upping their record to an undefeated 13-0.

Angelo Biondo (259-435) and Bryce Oliver (278-255—533) continued to lead the team, this time to a match total of 2,592.

Streetsboro’s best was bowled by Max Brace, a 234 high game and a 417 series for the Rockets (0-14).

Kent Roosevelt improved its record to 6-3 in the Suburban League with a close victory by 39 pins at the Knights’ home.

Chris LeSueur tossed a solid 453 series, with a high game of 257, as Lucius Ivory bowled a 223-426. Shaun Bennett (201) and Kobe Thigpen (211) added to the victorious total.

Roosevelt finished the match with a 617 Baker series, including a 230 high game.

Nordonia is now 5-4 in the Suburban.

It was a clean sweep for the Rough Riders as the girls made it a two-fer at NorthWoods Lanes in Macedonia, also beating the Knights by 141 pins.

Kent Roosevelt, now 5-4 in the Suburban League, was led by Emily Byles, rolling a 211 game on her way to a 383 series. Anna Larison and Barb Hickin bowled a 159 and 156, respectively, to help the Riders.

Nordonia finished with a 428 Baker series as the Knights dropped to 3-5 in the Suburban League.

SPRINGFIELD 2,205, SOUTHEAST 1,994

Springfield remained in second place in the PTC with a 12-3 record after toppling Southeast at Spins Bowl in Kent.

The Spartans’ best was bowled by Carlea Masters (192-202—394) and Madison Swan (158-202—360). A 211 Baker game topped off the match leading to a 529 series.

The Pirates’ Courtney Martin had a solid night, bowling a 237-193—430 and Olivia Shaulis added a 184 game and a 346 series to Southeast’s total.

The Pirates are now 6-8 in the PTC.
