The 27th World Gas Conference (WGC 2018) takes place in Washington DC from June 25-29, 2018 and is the first time in WGC’s 87 year history that it will be held in a country that is both the world’s largest gas consumer and gas producer. As part of the conference and exhibition, delegates also have the unique opportunity to add Technical Tours to their experience, to visit some of the region’s key energy sites.
Dominion Energy Cove Point Terminal, located in Lusby, Maryland, not far from Washington DC, will open liquefaction service in early 2018. It has just been announced that WGC 2018 delegates will be offered an opportunity to visit the world’s newest liquefaction terminal this June - the premier facility in terms of direct access to the Marcellus and Utica shale plays, two of the most prolific natural gas basins in North America.
The facility is strategically situated on the Chesapeake Bay where it is easily accessed by natural gas transmission lines and transport vessels. The current Cove Point Liquefaction Project will allow Dominion Energy to liquefy natural gas and store and load it on tanker ships for its customers to export.
WGC 2018 marks the first time in 30 years that the WGC has been held in the US and it comes to Washington DC at an exciting time, with the US recently becoming a net gas exporter for the first time in 60 years. Last year’s Potential Gas Committee assessment also reported a record future supply of natural gas in the US – the highest resource evaluation in the Committee’s 52 year history.
Conference delegates will have the chance to visit two other key sites in the region - BGE’s LNG Plant and Gas Control Center and LNG Peak Shaving Facility in Baltimore, MD and the Washington Gas Pipetown and Gas Control Operations Facility in Springfield, VA. All Technical Tours will take place on Monday June 25 prior to the conference and exhibition opening on Tuesday June 26, 2018. Places are limited and must be booked online during the delegate registration process at www.wgc2018.com.
Early Bird Delegate registration closes on January 31, 2018 – those who book online before this date will save $500 on the delegate fee.
