Michel Barnier 'delighted' ARCH-REMAINERS helping EU undermine Brexit Britain

EUROPEAN COMMISSION Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier is "delighted" to see Remainers undermining the British Government during the negotiations with the European Union, independent MEP Steven Woolfe claimed.

Remainers such as Tory MPs Anna Soubry and Nicky Morgan have expressed doubts about the Government's strategy and repeatedly voted against Theresa May's EU (Withdrawal) Bill.

Mr Woolfe suggested their behaviour was helping the European Union get a "better deal" than the United Kingdom.

He said: "The reality is that when you are in a time of negotiation between the United Kingdom and the , you must recognise – as I did and Barnier made clear to me – he is representing the EU27.

"If you have people in the United Kingdom doing his job for him by undermining the negotiation position of the Government, he’s delighted."

Mr Woolfe added that European MEPs were "ecstatic" to see British MPs attack their own Government because it undermines the UK during Brexit talks.

He continued: "Of course, the MEPs I meet currently in the European Union are ecstatic.

"Verhofstadt smiles everytime he hears Soubry and Morgan having a go at their Government because it helps them achieve a better deal."

The independent MEP also called on politicians from all backgrounds to come together in support of PM May and Brexit Secretary David Davis to protect Britain's interests.

He told TalkRADIO: "That’s why I say we must rally behind the Government to ensure that we get the best deal.

"Raise questions, by all means, but don’t undermine it to the extent you actually help the other side."

It comes after former Foreign Secretary William Hague suggested  could exploit Britain's military might to sway the results of the Brexit negotiations.

Mr Hague said that strong military forces are key to successful negotiations with the EU.

He said: “It is important to remember that we are putting to sea our biggest ever aircraft carriers and a new fleet of formidable submarines along with a great deal of other new equipment.

“This matters to the tortuous Brexit negotiations themselves."
