As we start 2018, many of us will shoot for better eating habits and fitness goals.
Since there are so many choices in the market place today, it might be seem hard to navigate your way to a healthy snack.
You know the feeling.
It’s 2 or 3 p.m. and despite your best attempt at willpower, you find yourself obsessing over how hungry you suddenly feel.
Maybe you try to let the feeling pass and wait for 10 then 15 minutes before reaching for a cookie or a “health bar” packed with sugar and preservatives. Or, worse, you take the dreaded walk to the vending machine, all the while knowing in the pit of your stomach it’s probably not a good idea at all.

Since most of us know this scenario all too well, here are some healthy snack options to satisfy without overdoing it.
Just because a snack is healthy doesn’t mean it lacks flavor or taste. In today’s food-obsessed world, there are healthy versions that not only taste good but are good for us.

Nuttzo
Nuttzo creates high energy, low sugar and nutrient dense 7 nut and seed butter snacks that fuel your body while tasting good.
Nuttzo founder Danielle Dietz-LiVolsi began to make hearty butter with a blend of peanuts, seeds and other nuts after adopting a malnourished boy from the Ukraine. Due to his orphanage diet, he couldn’t swallow solid foods like vegetables or meats, and he didn’t like the flavors of almost every other American food.

NuttZo nut butters never add sugar or oils. The jars are sold upside down on the store shelves to help with oil separation and stirring. My absolute favorite flavor is the Organic Power Fuel Chocolate, which is delicious smeared over apples or celery.
Using Eating Evolved dark chocolate, NuttZo was able to create a Paleo-approved chocolate butter. Eating Evolved chocolate uses a minimal amount of organic coconut sugar to add a touch of sweetness to the chocolate. With only 2 grams of sugar per serving, it’s great for satisfying a sweet tooth.

NuttZo also created a peanut-free blend, Power Fuel. It’s made with cashews, almonds, hazelnuts, Brazil nuts, flax, pumpkin and chia seeds. Vegan, Paleo and almond butter lovers clamor to this flavor.
In January, NuttZo is launching the first high protein collagen refrigerated bars: Bold BiteZ. The bars are made of 60% NuttZo, plus added goodies like collagen, cocao nibs and more. These mini bars are great for on the go from home to work or work to the gym. The bars range from $2.59-$2.99, the butters are $14.99 at Whole Foods.

Better Almond Butter
Better Almond Butter takes organic sprouted Marcona almonds from Spain, which are unpasteurized. Using unpasteurized almonds allows the company to sprout them. By sprouting the almonds, the almond’s enzyme inhibitors are broken down so that makes them easier to digest and allows the body to absorb all of the almonds nutrients. All U.S. grown almonds are required to be pasteurized, even ones labeled “raw.”
Currently the company has three flavors: Toasted, Truly Raw (Chunky) and Sweet and Salty (Smooth). All three flavors are quite delicious – my absolute favorite is the Truly Raw and because it is so minimally processed, there are fragments of almond shell, which add to the texture and flavor. ($19.95 per jar). Sold in stores throughout the area as well as on the website.

Fatso Hybrid Peanut Butter
Fatso Hybrid Peanut Butter is an all-natural peanut butter hybridized with healthy fats such as coconut oil, avocado oil, MCT oil, macadamia oil, chia, flax and the natural sweetness of tapioca starch which acts as a prebiotic fiber. This is peanut butter you can add to shakes and smoothies or smear over toast. I love to include this in my smoothies, which creates a thick consistency. Sold in jars of 6 and 12 ($59.99 to $119.99)

Partake Foods
Partake Foods was founded by Denise Woodard when her young daughter Vivienne began eating solid foods and began to show signs of having food allergies. Through research and diligence, Denise set out to create her own allergy-friendly food options. The cookies the company makes are made from simple, whole food ingredients - no gums, stabilizers, or artificial ingredients. Many gluten-free items are made with rice flour, but they use sprouted ancient grain flours (sprouted buckwheat, sprouted millet), include real vegetables in all the products, and have 20-30% less sugar than the competition.
The cookies are satisfying and delicious – making for a great snack option even if you don’t have food allergies. There are three types of cookies offered: Sprouted Grain Chocolate chip, Carrot Oat and Sweet Potato Millet. $4.99 per box
