Fire breaks out at Canton home

A fire of unknown origin severely damages of home in northeast Canton.

 

 

CANTON A fire caused extensive damage to a house at 1618 Laiblin Ave. NE late Monday afternoon.

City Fire Department personnel responded to the blaze at 5:20 p.m. Residents of the 21/2-story house were not home at the time.

"It involved the first and second floors," Battalion Chief Steve Henderson said. "It was heavily damaged. It looks like it started on the first floor."

As of Monday evening, the cause of the fire remained unknown.

"It is under investigation right now," Henderson said. "We are not sure of the cause."

The local American Red Cross chapter was summoned to provide emergency assistance.
