FDOC says five were taken to a hospital in "an abundance of caution."
Florida Department of Corrections officials confirmed that five inmates were transported to a local hospital Tuesday morning after part of a bathroom ceiling collapsed at the Union County Reception and Medical Center in Lake Butler.
FDOC Press Secretary Ashley Cook wrote in an email that a section of the ceiling fell onto the inmates and, in "an abundance of caution, inmates were transported to (an) outside medical (facility) to have their injuries evaluated."
Cook said department staff were inspecting the bathroom as well as the rest of the housing unit Tuesday morning and would begin repairs Tuesday.
