The Brandon Valley wrestling team beat Yankton and Aberdeen before falling against defending state champ last week.

The Lynx beat Yankton 61-13 and Aberdeen Central 40-25 on Friday, Jan. 12 before a 46-21 loss against Pierre T.F. Riggs.

Brandon Valley 61, Yankton 13

Brandon Valley won eight of the first nine matches with five wins by forfeit and falls by Isaac Klinkhammer in 4:58 over Giovanni Ruffo at 120 pounds and Jorey Sorenson in 1:01 at 160.

The Lynx closed out the match winning three of the last four bouts.

Tyler Small won a 5-3 decision at 182, Sam Lembcke picked up a fall in 1:03 at 195 and Sam Krohnke pinned Yankton’s Trevor Ellis in 3:26 at 285.

Brandon Valley 40, Aberdeen Central 25

Although the Lynx gave up a fall at 106, the team fought back by winning the next seven bouts with five falls, a sudden victory and a major decision.

Carson Askdal posted a sudden victory at 113, and Isaac Klinkhammer followed with the fastest pin of the match in 39 seconds at 120. Tate Johnson, Jack Smith, Kobi Terpstra and Creighton Klinkhammer added consecutive falls, and Damion Schunke added a 17-8 major decision.

Although the Lynx won only one of the next six bouts – a 6-2 decision by Zach Luke at 220 – the team had enough of a lead to secure the victory.

Pierre 46, Brandon Valley 21

The Lynx posted their first victory of the match at 120 pounds with a pin by Isaac Klinkhammer in 40 seconds. Johnson followed with a 5-1 decision at 126.

Brandon Valley won two other bouts: Schunke earned a fall in 6:00 at 152, and Luke pinned Gunnar Gehring in 59 seconds at 220.
