Manchester United have retained their position as the highest revenue generating club in world football.

United had a revenue of £581.2m in 2016/17 according to the 2018 Deloitte Football Money League.

That’s the most of any other football club in the world - but only just.

Real Madrid have the next highest revenue at £579.7m.

Barcelona have the third highest revenue (£557.1m) followed by Bayern Munich (£505.1m) and Manchester City (£453.5m).

The combined revenue for the world’s 20 richest clubs grew 6% to £6.9billion (€7.9 billion) last season - a new record high.

A record 10 English clubs now help to make up the Deloitte Football Money League.

Arsenal have climbed above PSG to take sixth spot in the league while Chelsea and Liverpool take eighth and ninth respectively.

Alexis Sanchez dreamed of Manchester United transfer

Leicester City are in 14th place ahead of giants of the game such as Inter (15th) and AC Milan who don’t make the list.

Tim Bridge, senior manager in the Sports Business Group at Deloitte, said: “The Deloitte Football Money League has a particularly English feel this year and with the new broadcast deal and UEFA competition performance driving broadcast revenue growth of over half a billion pounds for those in the top 20, it doesn’t come as a surprise.

“As the Premier League is currently in the middle of its rights tender for the next cycle from 2019/20, the results of this will be crucial to determining the long term composition of the Money League.”

Almost half of Manchester United’s revenue (£279.5m) came from commercial streams last year, while a third (£194.1m) came from broadcasting.

That means just 19% (£107.6m) came from matchday revenues.
