Fans of Denzel Washington, Mary J. Blige and Aaron Sorkin woke up to good news this morning as each received coveted Academy Award nominations when the 2018 nominees were announced.
Washington, a Mount Vernon native, was nominated for Leading Role for his work in the film "Roman J. Israel, Esq," while Yonkers-born Blige was named a Best Supporting Actress nominee for "Mudbound." Blige was also nominated for "Best Original Song," for "Mighty River," which she wrote for the film.
Sorkin, a Scarsdale High School graduate, was nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay for the film "Molly's Game." Sorkin wrote the screenplay for the 2015 film "Steve Jobs."

"The Post," the Steven Spielberg-directed drama about the publishing of the Pentagon Papers by the Washington Post, largely filmed in Westchester County was mostly shut out of the nominations.
The movie was nominated for Best Picture, and Meryl Streep was nominated for Leading Actress for her role in the film.
Nominations in all 24 categories were announced in a two-part, live presentation via global live stream on Oscar.com.
The Oscars will be televised on March 4, at 8 p.m. on ABC-TV.
