Seven ways Manchester United could line up with Alexis Sanchez

Monday, January 22
11.30pm: Borussia Dortmund will delay Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s move to Arsenal until the summer if they are not given Olivier Giroud in return.
The Gunners have identified the 28-year-old as their number one target to replace Alexis Sanchez, who finalised a move to Manchester United on Monday.
The German club want £60m for the Gabon international but are also desperate for a new striker to replace him.
And according to the Mirror, Giroud is top of their list of targets.
9pm: Alexis Sanchez has opened up on a previous conversation he had with Sir Alex Ferguson about joining Manchester United.
He said: “Since I was a young lad I’ve always said that my dream was to play for Manchester United, and I’m not just saying that because I’m here now and today it’s come true.
“I always said as a kid that I’d like to play for United and I once spoke to Sir Alex Ferguson about it.
“We chatted for around 20 minutes. And I told him that my dream was to come here to Manchester United.
“It really is a massive club, very powerful, and so now, when I got the opportunity to come here, I looked at the badge and my hairs just stood up on end because it’s a powerful club and the biggest in England.”
8.10pm: Alexis Sanchez has hailed David De Gea after completing his move to Manchester United.
He said: “I’ve not had the chance to get to know them personally or spend time with any of my team-mates up to now, but of course I know them from having played against them in the past.
“I believe that David De Gea is one of the best goalkeepers in the world right now.
“He’s a player who I’ve always found it hard to score past, and so for me he is right up there with the best keepers in the world.”
7.10pm: Sanchez has also taken a swipe at some former Arsenal stars that have been critical of him making the switch.
He said: “There are people (former club players) who have spoken with no knowledge of what happens inside the club and cause damage.
“I must say I always gave 100%, until the last day, when I asked to the Mister to be in the team, because I wanted to be a contribution.
“I remember today, a conversation I had with Henry, a historic Arsenal player, who changed club for the same reason and today is my turn."
6.40pm: Jose Mourinho is delighted to have completed the signing of Alexis Sanchez.
He explained: “Alexis is one of the best attacking players in the world and he will complete our very young and talented group of attacking players.
“He will bring his ambition, drive and personality, qualities that make a Manchester United player and a player that makes the team stronger and the supporters proud of their club dimension and prestige.
“I would like to wish Henrikh all the success and happiness that I am sure he is going to get. He is a player that we will not forget, especially for his contribution to our Europa League victory.”

4pm: Arturo Vidal could join pal Alexis Sanchez at Manchester United.
Chilean journalist Maks Cardenas claims Man United are interested in a deal for Vidal, who currently plays for Bayern Munich.
It’s said Vidal will stay in Germany until the summer but a decision will then be taken over his next step.
The midfielder is in the final year of his contract but United won’t have it easy to bring him the north-west with Chelsea keen on him too.
Cardenas wrote on Twitter: “Arturo Vidal will continue at Bayern Munich all season. In June he will still have one year of contract and has offers from China and Italy. Chelsea and Manchester United are interested too.”
2:45pm: Arsenal fans have been sent into meltdown due to a fake picture of Henrikh MKhitaryan.

According to the Evening Chronicle, Benitez is confident of the deal going through this time around.

The Gunners are struggling in the league at present and need to soften the blow of Alexis Sanchez leaving.
And Redknapp told the Daily Mail the importance of the next few weeks for Arsenal.
"The next few weeks are huge," he said.
"Arsenal have a great chance of reaching the Carabao Cup final, and if Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang comes in as well as Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Wenger can rekindle the pair’s superb understanding from their days at Borussia Dortmund."
12:30pm: Alexis Sanchez and Henrikh Mkhitaryan are waiting for the green light to complete their swap deal.

10:00am: Gary Neville cannot explain why Chelsea are so desperate to land another striker this month.
The Blues have been linked with moves for Islam Slimani, Peter Crouch, Andy Carroll and Ashley Barnes in recent days.
But Neville insists Antonio Conte doesn't need a new target man.
He said on the Gary Neville podcast: "Chelsea seem to be hell-bent on getting anybody that's over 6ft 3in and a target man.
"There is no doubt that Conte likes a target man. Graziano Pelle was a big favourite of Conte's when he was in charge of Italy so he does like someone up front who is a presence. But, are they really that desperate to have somebody for the last three months of the season?"
9:30am: Manchester City will regret not signing Alexis Sanchez.
That is according to pundit Alan Shearer.
The Chilean looks set to join rivals Manchester United in the coming days.
And Shearer believes Pep Guardiola will rue missing out on his former star.
"Man City might well think they have taken the moral high ground in the battle for Alexis Sanchez," he told The Sun.
"The truth is they have been dealt a major blow.
"Given the amount of money City have shelled out left, right and centre since Sheikh Mansour’s takeover in 2008, it does seem odd that now they have decided to rein it in.
"Or was this damage limitation because Sanchez had decided it was Manchester United who wanted him more?"
9:00am: Tottenham need to strengthen their squad this month.
That is according to former Burnley midfielder Joey Barton.
Spurs are struggling to keep pace in the battle for the Champions League places.
However, Mauricio Pochettino is usually reluctant to dip into the January transfer market.
“I think they do need to freshen it up,” Barton said on talkSPORT.
“When you’re in the Spurs dressing room and you see everybody else fighting it out for Alexis Sanchez, and Harry Kane’s being linked with Real Madrid, the players must just think, ‘am I in the right place here? Are we really going to challenge for top trophies like the Premier League title and the Champions League?'
“It maybe just puts that little element of doubt in there."

He told Paddy Power: "Suddenly, Man United are the destination for him, and that is massive statement from the club.
“He’s one of the best players in the Premier League, and they’ve had a lot of competition to sign him.
“This is their way of saying: ‘Don’t belittle us. we’re still the biggest club in the league and we can get who we want.’
“It seems like United, City, Liverpool and Chelsea were all after them. Sanchez choosing United sends a big message to those clubs, especially Man City.
“The signing is a statement of intent from Jose Mourinho too. With all the talk of him getting a new contract, this is his way of showing the direction he is going in with the club. It will also be a sign of what’s to come in the summer.”

1:00am: Mesut Ozil will demand a huge pay rise to match new signings if he is to extend his stay at Arsenal.
The German is out of contract at the end of the season and has been linked with a move away from the Emirates.
But the Gunners are confident of convincing Ozil to pledge his future to the club and according to The Sun the playmaker will expect to be paid the same as Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Both players will earn in excess of £200,000-a-week and Ozil will expect his new deal to be worth the same.
