The rebuilt Harrison Street bridge over Interstate 75 will reopen later this week in what state officials are calling the first milestone in the $113 million highway reconstruction in Findlay.
Only striping and other finishing work on the bridge remains to be done. Weather permitting, that may be done Wednesday.
The $3.3 million bridge reconstruction is wrapping up about two weeks ahead of schedule, said Kirk Slusher, deputy director for District 1 of the Ohio Department of Transportation. The bridge was originally built in 1964.
The rebuilt version is safer, with four piers or columns underneath it versus seven underneath its predecessor, Slusher said.
“We don’t have piers next to the I-75 lanes like we had in the past,” he said.
Work also continues on other facets of the I-75 reconstruction in Findlay.
