With thousands flocking the stalls everyday, the 41st Chennai Book Fair 2018 concluded on Monday at the St. George’s Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School grounds.
The 12-day long fair had over 10 lakh visitors, which according to the organisers is the largest recorded so far. The sale of books too significantly increased this year.
“The fair is becoming popular in the city, especially among children who throng the stalls to buy comics. This year, Ponniyin Selvan comics were a crowd puller,” said S. Subramanian, executive member of Booksellers and Publishers Association of South India (BAPASI).
The fair had over 376 participants displaying books in around 500 stalls. A computerised index named Bhaviyshya, which helped identify specific stalls and books for visitors, was also set up.
“We have been getting requests to extend the number of days of the fair. So next year, we are planning to hold it for over two weeks,” said Mr. Subramanian.
