 POWERGRID AWARDED FOR BEST RISK MANAGEMENT

POWERGRID has been awarded the CNBC-TV18 "Best Risk Management Framework & Systems Award" in two categories- 'Power' and 'PSU' at the 4th India Risk Management Awards (IRMA). The award was received by Director (Finance) K Sreekant at an event held in Mumbai on 19th January 2018. The award is a recognition to organizations who have significantly added to the understanding and practice of Risk Management. Both the awards were presented by Dr.Nouriel Roubini, Professor of Economics, New York University's Stern School of Business. POWERGRID is a Navratna CPSU, and has physical assets of more than145,400 ckm Transmission Lines, 230 Sub-stations with transformation capacity of 323,715 MVA. With the use of State-of-the-Art maintenance techniques, average availability, has been maintained at >99% .

FIGHT AGAINST CANCER A NOBLE WAY

In a first of its kind, towards welfare of Coast Guard families, cervical cancer awareness cum immunisation camp, for women/girls aged 13 to 26 years was organised under the stewardship of Urmila Singh, President Tatrakshika (Coast Guard wives welfare association) and in the presence of Jyoti Murthy, Vice President Tatrakshika at Coast Guard Kalyan Kendra, NOIDA on 21 Jan 2018. In it's drive to fight against cancer, the Sanjeevan chapter of Coast Guard Wives Welfare Association in association with NGOs organises regular lectures and cancer screening camps. As cervical cancer is one of the most common cancer among ladies after breast cancer, the President Tatrakshika as a noble gesture gave consent to organise vaccination camp for the ladies and girls aged between 13 to 26 years free of cost. The camp not only aimed at spreading awareness on cervical cancer but also encouraged the women undergo a regular screening test. To ensure that the Coast Guard ladies and daughters get equal benefits, the President Tatrakshika endeavours to extend this noble cause all to the Coast Guard Regions of India and Coast Guard Stations.

INDIA'S HIGH COMMISSIONER TO CANADA VISITS COL

 "The Commonwealth of Learning (COL) meets a very important lacuna in India and it's work impacts people on the ground." This was the message that the India High Commissioner to Canada, Vikas Swarup shared with COL staff when he visited recently at COL. Mr Swarup stated that his visit was to familiarise himself with COL's work. He appreciated COL's work in supporting skills development in India, especially among women and girls. He said that COL's massive open online courses (MOOCs) for development has increased access to learning and has the capacity to provide the required skills for employability among Indians and other citizens of the Commonwealth. COL President and CEO Professor Asha Kanwar briefed the High Commissioner on COL's work in Member States, particularly India. She said that COL supports governments, institutions and organisations to expand the scale, efficiency and quality of learning by leveraging open, distance and technology-based approaches. Professor Kanwar highlighted COL's belief that learning must lead to economic growth, social inclusion and environmental conservation.

MAN UNVEILS THE NEW CLA BSIV BUS CHASSIS RANGE

MAN Trucks India, the 100% subsidiary of MAN Truck & Bus AG, Germany, has unveiled the new CLA BSIV Bus Chassis range in Bengaluru. The product is available in two models 18.250 (4x2) and 22.300 (6x2) multi-axle. MAN has partnered with three leading bus body builders who can offer different innovative body designs to customers. The new CLA BS IV bus chassis models, with front mounted engine are manufactured at MAN Trucks' manufacturing plant in Pithampur, near Indore, Madhya Pradesh. The CLA bus chassis are designed for intercity coach application. A robust structure using tried and tested components in the chassis &driveline create the prerequisites for high reliability and longer product life. With the Central Government according greater priority to building new highways across the country for faster connectivity, intercity bus travel is expected to get a further boost. Operators are demanding for new solutions that offer attractive value proposition to help bring in more passengers.

CMD, NLCIL ADDRESSES VALEDICTORY SESSION OF NATIONAL SEMINAR

Dr. Sarat Kumar Acharya, Chief Guest of the Valedictory session for the three day National Seminar on Emerging Energy Scenario in India said that as many Thermal Power Stations running in the country crossed 30 years, it should be replaced with Environment Friendly Ultra Super Critical Boiler Technology , so that the pollution due to thermal power generation may be reduced. The Valedictory Session of the National Seminar, jointly organized by NLC India Ltd., and the Neyveli Local Centre of  Institution of Engineers was held on 21 January 2018 at Neyveli Leaning & Development Centre. The Seminar organized in three major topics viz., Mining Technology,  Thermal Power Engineering and Renewable Energy was simultaneously conducted at NLCIL Learning and Development Centre, Thermal Power Training Centre and Lignite Hall respectively. As many as 75 Research papers were submitted in 19 technical sessions arranged on important themes. 472 delegates of various Public and Private Sectors from home and abroad including NLCIL executives participated in the Seminar.

NATIONAL HANDICAPPED FINANCE AND DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION CONFERENCE

A National Conference of the State channelizing Agencies, Public Sector Banks and Regional Rural Banks of National Handicapped Finance and Development Corporation (NHFDC)  was organised  on 19th January 2018 at  India Habitat Centre, Lodhi Road,  New Delhi. Dr. Thaawarchand Gehlot, Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, Krishan Pal Gurjar, Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Shakuntala D. Gamlin, Secretary, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), (DEPwD), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment graced the occasion, Directors on the Board of NHFDC, SCL Gupta and DN Sharma also participated in the Conference. The Senior Officers of SCAs/Gramin Banks and PSBs also participated in the above conference. Dr. Thaawarchand Gehlot, Union Minister and Minister of State and Krishan Pal Gurjar addressed the participating agencies and advised for better coordination with NHFDC and Channelising agencies for the smooth and better implementation of  NHFDC Schemes for the benefit of larger number of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan).  Secretary, DEPwD and Directors of NHFDC also addressed the participants.

TEMPORARY SUSPENSION OF RAIL TRAFFIC ON TILAK BRIDGE

 Full dress rehearsal of Republic Day Parade & Republic Day Parade 2018 will be held on 23.1.2018 and 26.1.2018 respectively. During the Parade ceremony, the rail traffic on Tilak Bridge will remain temporarily suspended from 10.30 a.m. to 12.00 noon on 23.1.2018 and 26.1.2018.
