This refers to the reports, “Prez okays EC call on AAP MLAs” and “AAP says Prez nod ‘dangerous for democracy’” (January 22). It is saddening that in a typically familiar style, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has ridiculed President Ram Nath Kovind’s endorsement of the Election Commission’s recommendation to disqualify 20 Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs for their appointment as Parliamentary Secretaries.
One had hoped that after his overwhelming victory in Delhi polls, Kejriwal would grow into the Constitutional office as the capital city’s Government head, imbibe maturity, sobriety and dignity. Unfortunately, this does not seem to have happened. Instead of accepting the impropriety of appointing 20 Parliamentary Secretaries for a Cabinet of seven ministers, to obviously please the aspiring MLAs, he attacked the Election Commission, questioning its motives, and the President for approving the EC’s proposal.
Arvind Kejriwal’s tragedy is that his euphoric success in Delhi polls appears to have fuelled his dreams for a pan-Indian leadership (the Prime Ministerial office, no less), egging him on to fight elections in other States, with nearly a zero result.
It did not occur to him that model governance in the Capital would have improved his chances elsewhere. But that is characteristic Kejriwal for you: Too much tall talk and claims and very little in reality.
