We want our relationship with our community to be based on a foundation of trust.

You deserve coverage that is fair, accurate and responsible, and we want you to believe that’s what we’re delivering to you.

This is our mission statement:

“The Hutchinson News pledges to reveal and document the human condition in our time; to create a prosperous newspaper that enlightens our readers; to be an effective link between advertiser and consumer, and to practice a vigorous corporate citizenship on behalf of our customers and our employees.”

In a 2016 Gallup Poll, only 32 percent of Americans said they had “a great deal” or “a fair amount” of trust in the news media. We can — and should — do better than that.

With that in mind, we’re undertaking an effort to demonstrate better what we do, and in the process, try to improve our credibility. By taking part in a national effort called the "Trusting News" project, we want you to understand how and why we bring you The Hutchinson News every day.

As part of this we will:

Include information about our reporters and editors, so you’ll know who is producing your news.
Show our work, including source documents, and host events where we take you behind the story.
Answer your questions about why we do what we do.

We want to know how we're doing. We've set up a page on our website: HutchNews.com/trust.

There you can fill out a form, either anonymously or with your name, to let us know how we're doing.

We'll also answer your questions on that page through our new column, "Ask the Editor."

Of course, you can write us the old-fashioned way through the U.S. mail. Many people still do. But we'll be regularly checking our web page to gather feedback.

You can help us improve the way we bring you The News.

We want to keep the dialogue open with our community and continue the conversation.

Talk to us. We'll be listening.
