A day after controversy shrouded Union HRD Minister Satyapal Singh for his statements on Darwin’s theory, the Minister defended what he had stated about the theory of evolutions and called for debate at international level on the issue.

“The controversy over my recent comments are unnecessary. It is not a matter of controversy but a matter of debate. Let there be an international conference over the issue and In a ready for it,” said the Minister while interacting to journalists at the IIT Guwahati today.

“Scientists like Einstein and many other scientists has also refused to accept Darwin’s theory of evolution. Evidence has come out against the theory. The evolutionists and Darwinists should come forward and have a debate to prove what is factually correct,” he said.

The Minister while speaking at the Vaidik Sammelan at Aurangabad on Saturday stated that Darwin’s theory of evolution is wrong. He said that it is wrong to say that humans evolved from monkeys and such references should be removed from the science and history school textbooks.

Three science academies of repute— Indian Academy of Sciences, the Indian National Science Academy and the National Science Academy, however, reacted to the Minister’s statements on Sunday issued a combined statement saying that there is no scientific basis for the Minister’s statements.

“Evolutionary theory, to which Darwin made seminal contributions, is well established. There is no scientific dispute about the basic facts of evolution.
