A life cut short

DU student found murdered

Last Sunday evening, nobody could contemplate that Parvej Ahmed Joy will have such a tragic end to his life.

Parvej Ahmed Joy, 25, a second year student of political science at Dhaka University (DU), went missing on Sunday evening in Narayanganj.

Locals found his body floating on the Shitalkkhya River yesterday and informed the police who recovered and sent it to Narayanganj General Hospital for autopsy.

The reason behind his murder could not be known immediately.  Police primarily suspected that the youth was strangled, Officer-in-Charge Ismail Hosen of Rupganj Police Station said.

Hailing from a lower middle class family, Parvej was the lone bread earner of his five-member family.

He was the eldest among his three brothers and contributed to the family financially as his father is paralysed for the last few years.

Parvej was missing since Sunday night, Sub- inspector of Rupganj Police Station Nuruzzaman told The Daily Star quoting his family members.

“We recovered his body from  Shitalkkhya River yesterday after the locals informed us seeing his body floating in the river,” added the cop.

The joy of his family knew no bounds when he enrolled into DU, but all their dreams are now shattered after the sudden demise of their beloved son.

The news of “Parvej murder” shocked locals around his home, as he was cherished by others for his decent behavior and academic excellence.

“We are shocked by the news of his death. He was a brilliant student and had no conflict with anyone in our locality,” said Sakib Bin Miraj, one of his neighbors.

No further details could be known immediately.
