Roger Federer reveals huge problem at the Australian Open

ROGER FEDERER says there is one big problem at the Australian Open.

Federer, 36, played his first day match of the tournament today as he swept past Marton Fucsovics in straight sets.

But he spoke out after the game at a major issue where the sun makes it too hard to serve between two hours of play.

The difficult period runs from 11.30am and 1.30pm and with play starting at 11am each day, scores of players are affected.

Asked the difference between playing in the day and playing at night, Federer said: "That there is a difference. That's basically it.

"You know, you might get a bit more wind in the daytime. Usually in the evening it always slows down.

"Then here in Australia, actually, between maybe 11:30 and 1:30 there is a tough spot in the sun when you're serving. More so than anywhere else in the world, to be honest."

The searing heat Down Under has made playing in the day almost unbearable as temperatures hit 40 degrees.

Gael Monfils, following his defeat to Novak Djokovic, last week said he felt like he was 'almost dying' while Rafael Nadal admitted the conditions were 'dangerous'.

Federer played his opening three rounds in the night sessions where temperatures were far cooler, causing a stir among players.

Legend Pat Cash admitted it was unfair for the rest of the field and said: "It has caused a bit of controversy actually. It's one of those tricky things.

"Does Federer get an unfair advantage? Yeah, he probably does but does he deserve the unfair advantage? Yeah he probably does.

"It has been a bonus to stay out those two stinking hot days."
