A Bengali short film ‘Saubala’ was screened on Monday at Bharat Bhavan. The film was screened under the International Spiritual Film Festival of India (ISFFI) 2018.
Directed by Aniket Chattopadhyay, the movie was also screened at Cannes Film Festival under Cannes Short Film Corner 2016. Saubala was one of the 32 films that were short listed for the fest.
On Monday, the movie was screened at Antarang Hall, Bharat Bhavan. Various theatre artists, film makers, playwrights and aspirants who want to enter the film direction were present at the hall during the screening.
Saubala is a fantasy drama about life vs death, fate, choices we make for survival and its ironical consequences. It outlines a mere depiction of an abstract incident framing the superiority of evil over good. The film mirrors society’s mindset and in doing so, rake out your own prejudices.
The 13 minute long movie brilliantly showcases different aspects of life. Aniket started as an assistant director with some prominent producing houses in Kolkata and contributed in many hits. After a while he decided to direct his own film independently. Then he thought of a story which he named ‘Saubala’. Bengali short film was a hit among the viewers and then he decided to send ‘Saubala’ to festival De Cannes in the short film corner. It was selected and was appreciated a lot.
After the film screening, a seminar on ‘Spirituality in Film Making’ was held at Bharat Bhavan. The eminent filmmakers and critics including Ajit Rai, Anant Narayan Mahadevan and others were present.
Meanwhile at Madhya Pradesh State Tribal Museum the exhibition of photography workshop was held. This was followed with film screenings of movies like Banaras and The Unexploded.
