The Stark County Coroner's Office was called to the scene to investigate the death.
LAWRENCE TWP. Police said an Orrville area man took his own life Monday by jumping off the Deerfield Avenue NW bridge that runs over state Route 21.
Chief Dave Brown, of the Lawrence Township Police Department, said the man likely made the leap in the early afternoon and landed in a grassy area adjacent to northbound Route 21 under the bridge, which is just south of the Wayne County line.
A township police officer confirmed Monday evening that the man was 50 years old. He was reported missing earlier in the day by his wife, who said her husband was recently depressed.
Alcohol and drugs did not appear to be factors in the fatality, the officer said.
A passerby who saw the body while driving a truck made the 911 call, the chief said.
Harry Campbell, chief investigator of the Stark County Coroner's Office, was called to investigate the death.
