SIT on trail of more alleged fake encounter cases

Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)/Special Investigation Team (SIT) reportedly carried out spot enquiry regarding eight alleged fake encounter cases in the State during the past few days, as per the directives given by the Supreme Court of India.
According to a reliable source, ever since the CBI/SIT led by SP, CBI, Padmakumar arrived in the State on January 17, it has started carrying out spot enquiries at some alleged fake encounter sites at Hatta Golapati, Naran Konjin, Kwakeithel Tiddim road and Kiyamgei Shantipur (which was also reported by The Sangai Express on January 20) .
According to the source as well as reports from Extra Judicial Execution Victim Families Association (EEVFAM), the CBI/SIT also visited the family members of four more alleged fake encounter victims in different parts of the State till date.
The source pointed out that spot enquiry was conducted in connection with the alleged fake encounter case of one Md Ishaque and one Md Mustakin of Lilong Chaobok Mairem Khul, who were killed by a team of Imphal East commando personnel along the road leading to Uran Chiru Manipur Adventure and Allied Sports Institute (MAASI) complex, under Irilbung PS, on January 12, 2012.It was reported at the time that the alleged encounter took place between the commando personnel and the two deceased along the road leading to MAASI.
One of the victims died on the road side while the other allegedly tried to escape but was shot dead inside the Maruti Omni van (driven by the two victims).
The police also claimed to have recovered one .32 pistol, three IEDs and seven Chinese hand grenades from the possession of the two deceased.
The investigating team also reportedly carried out enquiry in connection with the death of one Thokchom Ranjit of Imam Nungoi in the custody of Porompat PS on May 8, 2011.Ranjit was reportedly picked up by a team of Imphal East district police for verification on suspicion of having links with armed outfits.
After the custodial death of the individual, five police personnel (including one SI) were reportedly suspended at that time.
Sources further said that the CBI/SIT conducted enquiry in connection with the alleged fake encounter case of one Laishram Ranbir alias Eshel of Uchiwa Awang Leikai at the hands of a team of Imphal West commando personnel at Hiyangthang Mamang Narankonjin under Wangoi PS, on December 20, 2011.It was reported at the time that L Ranbir (a KCP cadre), who was allegedly involved in a double murder case of Irilbung water supply chowkidar and his son, was killed during the alleged fake encounter with Imphal West commando personnel at around midnight of December 20 (2011) and police claimed to have recovered a 9 mm pistol from his possession as well.
However, the family members of the deceased claimed that he was picked up by police commandos from his residence at around 9.30 pm the same day, before he was killed in the alleged fake encounter.
CBI/SIT also reportedly conducted enquiry in connection with the alleged fake encounter of one Naorem Krishnamohan of Kakching Khuman by Manipur police personnel at Kakching Khulen on August 2, 1991 .
