New Delhi, Jan 23: Ahead of the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming film ‘Padmaavat’, the Gautam Budh Nagar administration has imposed Section 144 (Prohibits the assembly of four or more people) of the CrPc in the district, to keep an eye on any untoward incidents.

Earlier on Sunday, many organisations protested against the film. The agitation by Karni Sena members started  at Grand Venice Mall, Greater Noida and later, it spread to Noida-Greater Noida Expressway and DND toll plaza.

Gautam Budh Nagar’s District Magistrate BN Singh said,”Section 144 will be implemented for the next 2 months in the district. This is a precautionary measure taken to maintain law and order.”

“Several cases under relevant sections have been filed at Surajpur, Kasana, Dadri and many other police stations against Karni Sena men. We have arrested 12 people from the spot and detained many others for creating nuisance. Extra police forces are being deployed across the city to maintain peace,” The Hindu quoted Suniti, Superintendent of Police, Gautam Budh Nagar as saying.

The flick has run into trouble time and again, as members of several Rajput factions have accused the director of the film, Bhansali of distorting history. Meanwhile, the Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus is all set for a worldwide January 25 release in Hindi, Telugu and Tamil. The film is based on 16th-century Sufi poet Malik Muhammad Jayasi’s epic poem ‘Padmavat’.
