A Michigan doctor could face deportation even though he’s been living in the U.S. for nearly 40 years.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents visited Dr. Lukasz Niec Jan. 16 at his home and took him to jail, WOOD-TV reported.
His wife, Rachelle, said she believes the issue is due to two misdemeanors he got when he was in high school that involved destruction of property less than $100 and receiving stolen property, mlive.com reported. Rachelle Burkart-Niec says her husband has been living in the U.S. for decades on a permanent Green Card.
Bronson Healthcare said in a statement Monday that ICE also cited two misdemeanors from 26 years ago to support his detention, WOOD-TV reported.
“We believe that Dr. Niec’s recent history as a contributing member of our community is far more indicative of the type of person he is than the incidents that occurred when he was a teenager,” the statement said.
