‘Despotic’ rule of Telangana Rashtra Samithi condemned

The Bahujana Left Front (BLF), a coalition of various organisataions, aims to galvanise the public against the "despotic rule" in the State and provide a pro-people alternative for empowering the downtrodden sections in social, economic and political spheres, said Telangana Mass and Social Organisations (T-MASS) Forum steering committee member Tammineni Veerabhadram.

The BLF’s inaugural convention is slated to be held in Hyderabad on January 25 with the intention to end the domination of affluent sections and exploitation of weaker and disadvantaged groups, Mr Veerabhadram, who is the State secretary of the CPI(M), said.

Public meeting

He was addressing a public meeting organised by T-MASS to highlight the issues faced by the poor and downtrodden sections which were identified during a fortnight long survey conducted by the Forum across the district recently. Launching a scathing attack on the TRS government, he alleged that resentment against it was fast growing due to utter failure to deliver on its pre-election promises, mainly two-bed room houses to all shelterless poor, ample employment opportunities and providing three acres of land to each Dalit family.

"The TRS government will face the ire of people for its brazen attempts to suppress democratic movements and stifle the voice of Opposition parties," he said, reiterating that BLF would emerge as a “unified force to end tyranny” and ensure socio-economic and political empowerment of marginalised sections.

T-MASS steering committee member and CPI (M) district secretary Nunna Nageswara Rao alleged that police had imposed restrictions on a dharna proposed by the Forum as they did not want a spotlight on the issues confronting poor people.

Citing the findings of the survey, he said a Dalit sarpanch in Yerrupalem mandal was denied ration card and more than 12,000 shelterless poor people were deprived of double-bed room houses as promised prior to the 2014 general elections by the TRS.

T-MASS district forum chairperson D. Jwalitha and others spoke.

Tension prevailed at the Pavilion grounds soon after the meeting, when police foiled an attempt by the Forum to take out a rally to the Collectorate in pursuit of their demands. An activist reportedly fainted in the melee, resulting in mild commotion.
