Padmaavat box office predictions: Ranveer Singh – Deepika Padukone’s film will rake in over Rs 20 crore on its opening day

Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s controversial film Padmaavat is all set to hit the screens this Thursday at the box office. While the historical drama has received a huge thumbs-up from the audience because of its trailer and music, some self-vigilante group continues to create the hurdles for its release as they feel the film is distorting the history. Padmaavat has already received a great response in the advance booking report across the country. The film has opened well in both – multiplexes as well as single-screens.

Our trade expert Amul Mohan said, ” The movie is releasing on 25th January (Thursday) which is not a holiday, it’s a working day but given the atmosphere and the vibe around the film I think it will open with a big number, anything plus Rs 20 crore is expected. Our another trade expert Akshaye Rathi said that the magnum opus is expected to open around Rs 25 crore to Rs 30 crore on its first day. Padmaavat has had a long history of trouble. It stars Deepika Padukone as Rani Padmavati, Shahid Kapoor as Maharawal Ratan Singh and Ranveer Singh as Alauddin Khilji. From being assaulted on the film’s set in Jaipur to the set being vandalised in Kolhapur to getting threats from detractors — Bhansali has been facing the ire of organisations that are up in arms against the period drama since its inception — from when it was titled Padmavati.

Months after facing opposition, the makers, Bhansali Productions and Viacom18 Motion Pictures, clarified that the film was based on 16th century Sufi poet Malik Muhammad Jayasi’s epic poem Padmavat, and does not distort historical facts — as was being alleged by some Rajput outfits. Made on the whopping budget of around Rs 160 crore, the stakes are riding very high on this historical drama. Since the next big releases, Pad Man and Aiyaary are hitting the screens on February 9, Padmaavat has two open weeks to perform at the box office.
