James Taylor and his wife, Albany native Kim Hessberg Taylor, donated $10,000 to Albany Medical Center after a concert that was to benefit the hospital was canceled.

Taylor and John Legend were to perform Friday at the Times Union Center's gala reopening to celebrate nearly $20 million in arena renovations but the show was canceled over the weekend.

Albany Med announced the donation Monday on its Twitter account.

The donation goes to the Pediatric Emergency Department, scheduled to open this summer, according to Albany Med.

Times Union Center management blamed the cancellation on the event's promoter, saying the company couldn't pay the venue's deposit.

The event also was to feature a performance by local singer Moriah Formica.

All tickets purchased for the show will be refunded.

Times Union Center General Manager Bob Belber would not say how much the promoter, Metropolitan Entertainment Consulting of New York City, owed.

Belber said another celebration will be planned for later in 2018, promising it will feature well-known performers.

The 14-month renovation was the largest change to the Times Union Center since it opened 28 years ago. The $19.8 million Albany County project, which was funded through bonds, enclosed the arena's front atrium and the walkway to the Empire State Plaza. The work included renovation of the arena's bathrooms and the addition of LED screens on the building's South Pearl Street facade.
