Mr Brooksbank revealed to The One Show’s Matt Baker that it was “love at first sight” with Princess Eugenie in the couple’s first interview since their engagement. 

Princess Eugenie said it was “so exciting” to finally reveal their engagement, with Jack chiming in, adding: “Very very happy, very excited.”

The couple revealed that only their close family and the Queen and Prince Phillip knew about the proposal.

The princess also showed off her stunning engagement ring. 

Jack explained: “I went and found an amazing padparadscha sapphire but then didn’t want to do anything until Eugenie had signed off on it.”

Asked how long she has been wearing the ring, Princess Eugenie said: ”Literally less than 24 hours, first time was last night and it feels very strange to have this on my finger. It’s so nice.

Jack, 29, who is a staple of the London nightclub scene, also revealed he got on one knee for the proposal. 

Host Matt Baker asked the princess to introduce the world to her fiance, who had never given a TV interview in the seven years the couple had been together. 

She said: “We met when I was 20 and Jack was 24 and we fell in love and we have the same passions and drive for life. 

“It’s so nice that we get to share this moment with everyone and you get to meet Jack.”

The couple said they met skiing near Verbier, revealing it was love at first sight.

Jack said: “We were skiing, weren’t we? In a friend's place in Nendaz right next to Verbier when we were skiing which was amazing. 

“Love at first sight.”

Pressed about whether it was love at first sight for both of them, the 26-year-old princess nodded. 

Asked whether their relationship felt different this morning, the couple said it was all for the better. 

Jack said: “Yes, and for the better, it’s amazing and I love Eugenie so much and we’re just very happy and over the moon for what is to come.

“So excited now to be telling friends and family and just very very excited to spend a lifetime together which is amazing.”
