14 foreigners among 18 killed in Haqqani network attack on Kabul hotel

The Ministry of Interior of Afghanistan released its latest findings regarding the attack on Intercontinental Hotel in Kabul that left several people dead or wounded, including several foreign nationals.
According to a statement by the Ministry of Interior, a group of insurgents belonging to the Haqqani terrorist network launched a coordinated attack on Intercontinental Hotel late on Saturday night.
The statement further added that eighteen people were killed in the attack including fourteen foreigners and four Afghan nationals.
According to the ministry, at least nine people including six personnel of the Afghan national police Special Operations Forces were also wounded.
The ministry said their preliminary findings show that the attack was plotted by the Haqqani terrorist network which has safe havens outside Afghanistan.
No further details were given in this regard but the Afghan officials have long been insisting that the terror network has safe havens and their leadership councils are based in the key cities of Pakistan.
The Taliban militants group claimed responsibility behind the attack hour after the deadly clashes resulting into the killing of all the assailants.
Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid in a statement claimed that the attack was carried out by a group of at least five insurgents who stormed into the hotel and managed to resist the security forces for almost 14 hours.
Mujahid also claimed that several people were killed in the attack including the foreigners, accusing all the victims of the attack as invaders.
