CANTON  Officials still are investigating a Sunday morning fire in which a 68-year-old woman died.

Almeda Brogan was found dead inside the house at 1238 Shadyside Ave. SW shortly after 8:30.m. The Stark County Coroner's office still is working to determine the cause of death.

Canton firefighters were called to the house after workers at a nearby house smelled smoke and investigated. They broke a window and could see Brogan inside, fire officials said. When fire crews arrived Sunday morning, they found no fire in the house but smoldering and smoke.

Brogan suffered from respiratory problems, said Harry Campbell, chief investigator for Stark County Coroner Dr. Anthony Bertin.

Containers of oxygen were in the residence. Investigators are trying to determine if Brogan might have been smoking while using the oxygen.
