Millie, a female, domestic short hair who’s about 7-years old, is the East Bay SPCA’s pet of the week.

Millie is ready to be a new best friend. No matter what her owner does, she wants to do it with the owner. She really likes to be in the center of things and she’s happy to have a companion.

Her adoption fee, and all pets with New Year’s resolutions, is waived throughout January. Click here for Millie’s profile.

Millie and other animals are available for adoption in the East Bay SPCA’s Oakland Adoption Center at 8323 Baldwin St.

Click here to view more adoptable animals or call 510-569-0702 for more information. The center is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays.

VALLEY HUMANE SOCIETY

K. Jacoby/Valley Humane SocietyLuca is the Valley Humane Society's pet of the week.
(K. Jacoby/Valley Humane Society)

Two-year-old Luca is politely curious, perpetually monitoring the action in his environment. He enjoys a bit of attention but is more interested in making sure things go off as planned. If you’re looking to get more organized this year, Luca would make a great personal secretary.

Hire him today at the Valley Humane Society, open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday at 3670 Nevada St. in Pleasanton. For more information, call 925-426-8656 or visit valleyhumane.org to see other adoptable cats and dogs.

FRIENDS OF ALAMEDA ANIMAL SERVICES

Carla Thornton/FAASKephua is the Alameda Animal Shelter's pet of the week.
(Carla Thornton/FAAS)

Pet of the week: Kephua, a 3-year-old American Staffordshire terrier, is a great all-around dog. He’s good with kids and likes other dogs. He’s housetrained and loves to play fetch and chase. When it’s time to be still and behave, he knows sit, stay, down and come. So if you seek a young, affectionate dog with a great personality and good social skills to complete your family, come meet Kephua.

Dog Alley: FAAS has 20 other dogs available for adoption. All of our German shepherds have found homes except Beau, a big beautiful boy that likes having his coat brushed. His adoption fee has been waived, as have, thanks to generous donors, the fees for almost all of our large dogs: Zeus, Emmett, Eddie, Bowie, Roameo, Jupiter and Star.

Cat Lair: There are 22 cats, including a handful of kittens, waiting for you at FAAS. Mr. Black, a distinguished 11-year-old former alley cat now a gentleman seeking inside lodging, is still waiting to be adopted. He’s a sweet old man. We are also not sure why Yuki is still here. She is a 4-year-old silver-and-cream Siamese, a real beauty.

Love Conquers Allergies: One kitty no longer waiting for a home is Kristy, a 9-year-old gray-and-orange tabby. Kristy was surrendered to FAAS when her owner became allergic to her. But the surrender didn’t stick. The family could not bear to live without sweet Kristy, no matter what. So last weekend they came back and readopted her. Dad is now taking allergy shots.

CAT TOWN

Merlin has made great progress over the past few weeks. With a gentle approach he’ll happily melt into pets and when he’s feeling frisky you’ll find him flying across the room, chasing a ribbon toy. We think he’d do best in a home with another feline companion who can help him continue to blossom. Email info@cattownoakland.org to chat about adopting Merin. VALLEY HUMANE SOCIETY

Let Ripple spread out across your life! This friendly 3-year-old cat enjoys a quiet lap but can run rings around you during playtime. If still waters run deep, then Ripple is a wink and a smile.

Visit her today at the Valley Humane Society, open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday at 3670 Nevada St. in Pleasanton. For more information, call 925-426-8656 or visit valleyhumane.org to see other adoptable cats and dogs.

PUG RESCUE

Gracie is the Pug Rescue Pet of the Week for Jan. 26.(Courtesy of Pug Rescue)
(Pug Rescue)

Gracie is a 7-year old sweet girl who wants human contact as much as possible. She would prefer to sit on a human lap, or at least next to someone on the couch. If she can’t sit on your lap, she is usually leaning against your leg or foot. Gracie likes to jump on the couch so she can be next to her humans, so if you don’t like dogs on the furniture, she’s probably not right for you. Gracie walks well on leash and actually likes baths and she does the happy pug dance afterward. She does snore loudly but at the same time she is not a barker. Gracie is still undergoing housetraining and will use the doggy door.

Gracie is fine with kids, and cats don’t bother her. She can be a bit dominant with her foster pug sister, she just wants the attention. Gracie also must tell you she has just one eye. Her good eye must be lubricated with drops as she gets dry eye and it should be kept moistened. Gracie is looking for her forever home and someone who will be committed to doing what she needs to keep her seeing well.

Gracie’s ideal home is with someone who will sit on the couch for long periods of time holding her on your lap. If you would like to meet Gracie, complete an online application at www.pugpros.org to be approved.
